Is it possible to be happy?
Your happiness and that of your friends and family is important. However, many people feel that something else needs to occur in their life before they can really be happy. They need more money, a fitter body, saner relatives, a better sex life, better job, more friends etc.

Anyone can state reasons why they are not happier but the truth of the matter is that it is your state of mind and attitude to life that determines your successes or failures and therefore your feelings of happiness.

Recall of a day you felt really happy then ask yourself:
  • Did other people seem friendlier?
  • Did you feel more motivated?
  • Did you find yourself making plans for the future and feeling more optimistic you could carry out those plans?
  • Was your confidence higher than usual?
  • Did you feel more affinity for those around you?
  • Did your future suddenly look brighter?
That was happiness and it has a definite effect on your ability to succeed or fail in anything that you try to do.




Now compare that feeling to the opposite – recall a day you felt unhappy or depressed for some reason:
  • Did the future suddenly become far less promising? Did other people seem more hostile or indifferent?
  • Did your self-confidence go down?
  • Did even the slightest barrier to something you wanted to do make you feel overwhelmed and like you could not be bothered?
  • Did you find it harder to get started on doing anything useful?
That, of course, is unhappiness and it does not usually help you advance in life.

The point is, that your attitude towards yourself and your life determines how effective you will be and how happy that makes you feel as a result.

It is normal to assign the reasons for unhappiness to other factors and people beyond yourself. However, even when those factors are true, it does not make you happier or resolve those problems. It just makes the problems stronger and makes them even more formidable to overcome.

The only thing that can really resolve problems is the feeling that you can overcome the barriers you have and feeling motivated and confident enough to go ahead and do so. Easier said than done if you don’t know how to achieve that.

So what solutions are there to unhappiness and how can you go about increasing your abilities and effectiveness in overcoming life’s barriers?




The fact is that there is a hidden and often destructive part of the mind that can sabotage your ability and restrain your potential and therefore your feelings of happiness.

Having a happy life is not determined by other factors beyond you. It is determined by you being able to know your goals and then going ahead to overcome the obstacles to those goals. And to do that, you need to know how to spot and handle the barriers in your own mind, and often, those of others around you.

This includes knowing the causes of negative emotions from feeling slightly sad right down to the cause of screaming insanity! If you wish to be happier or more able to make life what it ought to be – in any area – then start with finding out what your mind is and what it can really do.
